Job Description
Supports engineers in optimization of refinery operations to improve yields, capacities, product quality, reliability, and utilization.
Communicates, provides guidance, implements, and supports the adoption of corporate-wide and refinery-wide policies and programs.
Supports and advises engineers on trouble-shooting operating problems such as capacity limitations, product quality, corrosion and fouling mechanisms, and equipment failures.
Provides engineers with the necessary tools and resources to accomplish department goals, including engaging refining technologists, consultants, and contractors to facilitate resolution of complex issues.
Works closely with Refining Management, Refining Asset Development and Business Development to define project business objectives, scope, costs, and associated risks for developing business opportunities and setting investment strategy for the Refining Business Unit.
Strategically distributes workloads and ensures that project deadlines are met.
Communicates expectations to personnel, evaluates individual performance versus expectations to determine the areas of strength and opportunities for improvement and appraises personnel of their performance status in a timely manner.
Prepares status and progress reports for management and communicates accomplishments and concerns to management.
Coaches and mentors engineers in development of communication and interpersonal skills of personnel so that appropriate work relationships can be developed with customers, contractors, and other work associates.
Develops and manages a training plan using work assignments and training opportunities to continuously improve technical skills.
Participates in the management of department staffing, including recruiting interviewing and selection of candidates.
Acts as a liaison between engineers and the refinery management team.
Evaluates and approves selection of contractors for process design or troubleshooting work.
