Job Description

Production Engineer – SE Saskatchewan   Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Production Engineer.  Based in Calgary, this position will report to the Team Lead, Alameda, CBU.  This position is a key member of the team and will be responsible for maximizing production and cash flow from all wells and waterflood projects in the assigned areas. Other responsibilities include managing routine well servicing, identifying and implementing operating cost reduction ideas, and designing artificial lift equipment. Key Responsibilities Lead production optimization efforts of all wells and infrastructure, identifying and recommending opportunities to increase production, enhance well recoveries, reduce operating expenses and apply innovative and cost-effective optimization Lead waterflood surveillance and optimization efforts, including identifying opportunities, recommending optimization options, and implementing changes with the field staff Develop and maintain strong and positive relationships with field staff through regular site visits, act as liaison between field and Calgary office Conduct periodic well reviews to troubleshoot off trend performance; work closely with exploit engineer to review subsurface issues affecting well performance Identify, recommend and provide engineering support for projects aimed at reducing operating expenses, while working closely with field operations Coordinate design, procurement, set up, monitoring, and optimization of production equipment Work closely with Completions and Facilities staff in the design of facilities and completions Manage and coordinate routine well servicing, recommend process changes as needed to ensure efficiencies and provide support for workovers and program execution Liaise with production accounting, marketing, JV and land as required to proactively resolve issues impacting production volumes Track and report artificial lift equipment failures and field production downtime, conducting root cause analysis and making recommendations as needed Monitor production testing compliance and test accuracy; ensure current regulatory requirements are met for new and existing wells Conduct routine production surveillance of competitor’s wells Prepare and manage downhole workover and optimization budgets for the area Provide production engineering support, lead or coordinate planning and execution of other special projects as required Support and recommend initiatives aimed at improving capital efficiencies of future wells Support ongoing M&A initiatives as required Ensure Vermilion’s operations meet Saskatchewan MER requirements Participate in Vermilion’s Health, Safety, and Environmental program Essential Experience & Skills Minimum of 10 years Operations or Production Engineering experience Minimum of 2 years of field experience in a Field Engineering role Facility Engineering experience would be a significant asset Software experience in Geoscout, Mosaic, Prodview, Petrolook, Microsoft Project, Excel, Powerpoint, XSPOC (Pump off controllers), S-Rod, IRP 7 training, Zed-i Must be able to work collaboratively in large, multi-disciplinary teams Professional, team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain partnerships Detail oriented, logic based decision making, critical thinking, adaptable to change, project management and ability to manage multiple priorities Effective verbal and written communication skills with acute attention to detail Strategic thinker with exemplary analytical and problem solving skills and capacity to identify information and resources needed to complete tasks Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a deadline driven environment Education Bachelor Science in Engineering or Degree in Engineering Technology Attributes & Characteristics Open and honest team player Positive and engaging personality Flexible, influential and assertive when required Vermilion Attractions   Alberta based, international company Diverse asset base in Europe, Australia, US and Canada 20-year history of market outperformance Ranked among the Top 10 Best Workplaces in Canada, France and The Netherlands Challenging and inspiring environment that embraces teamwork and collaboration Strong community investment and committed to giving back to the communities where our people live and work   Vermilion is committed to ensuring we conduct our activities in a manner that will protect the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the public.
