Geologist

Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Geologist. Based in Denver and reporting to the Managing Director, US Business Unit, the Geologist will be responsible for exploiting our existing asset base, providing geologic expertise to understand the resource potential and associated risks, providing geological operations support for drilling programs, and supporting the teams geologic interpretation of acquisition opportunities across the US. This position will be key in providing expertise in evaluations for Business Development deals.
Key Responsibilities
Develop thorough knowledge of lithology, structure, porosity, net pay, and hydrocarbon saturations of all productive zones in assigned areas by integrating well log, drill-stem tests, core analysis, seismic data, drilling histories, production performance, etc.
Identify geological keys that define high potential areas and optimal vertical & horizontal targets across Vermilion acreage.Â
Utilize PETRA and other software to develop methods that display critical factors influencing performance.
Work closely with other team members to optimize field development strategy and maximize value.
Responsible for well operations and monitoring/integrating geo-steering activity for horizontal wells
Monitor competitor and analog activity surrounding existing assets to identify new opportunities and technology enhancements.
Assess area land sales, expiring lands, and recommend lease extensions, new leasing, and farm-in/farm-out opportunities as required.
Provide geological evaluation support for US acquisition opportunities.
Ensure US geologic tools are updated with most current industry data. Recommend additional data sources when economically justified.
Support the team with the preparation of various maps and other displays. Upgrade the quality of display materials, especially those used externally or higher in the company.
Prepare and deliver presentations to management regarding development and acquisition opportunities.
First Year Deliverables
Lead and support efforts on evaluations of current projects
Be pro-active and initiate evaluations and possible opportunities in areas within the Rocky Mountain basin
Essential Experience & Skills
7-10 years industry experience within the US and specifically the Rocky Mountain Region
Conventional and Unconventional experience
Highly organized, results oriented, not afraid to take initiative and have a willingness to learn
Good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to clearly present ideas in both formal and informal settings
Highly proficient with industry standard software applications; such as PETRA, Kingdom, IHS or similar
Education
B.Sc. in Geology
