Job Description

Geophysicist   Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Geophysicist.  Based in the Calgary office and reporting to the Team Lead, Carrot Creek, the Geophysicist will be a key member of the Geosciences team, responsible for providing technical support in a multi-disciplinary setting for all development activities within the Carrot Creek land base, through the application and integration of 2D and 3D seismic practices.  The geographical focus will be to maximize the value of the existing development and appraisal land in the portfolio, and identify other play opportunities outside of Vermilion’s current land position.  The company has a fast-moving work environment where decisions are made quickly, technical excellence is paramount and subsurface understanding is key to unlocking an asset and basin’s potential. Key Responsibilities Provide geophysical expertise, detailed seismic interpretation, and horizontal drilling execution support Utilize traditional and advanced seismic interpretation techniques to identify, characterize and rank Vermilion’s prospect inventory, including but not limited to Quantitative Interpretation using Ikon RocDoc and Hampson-Russell software, and rock-physics interpretation of inversion results Collaboratively integrate geophysical interpretation into multidisciplinary geologic models Collaboration on the development, exploitation and growth of Vermilion’s assets and execution of the budget and Long Range Plans (LRP), including providing necessary support for the construction of annual budgets and ensuring an inventory of high quality, execution ready locations exist Work in partnership with D&C to design and execute the operational plan including geohazard reviews and depth conversion for geo-steering support Complete look backs of drilling campaigns and budget cycles; make recommendations to improve well performance and reduce capital Monitor and influence non-op activity Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary (GG&E) team to identify, assess, and evaluate economics of growth opportunities (i.e. M&A, landsales, swaps, farm-ins) within asset team area Work closely with land to evaluate and make recommendation on expiries Monitor competitor activity outside of existing land base and identify opportunities for farm-ins, new land acquisition and new technology application Manage and direct the budget, execution, and design on new seismic programs Additional responsibilities as assigned First Year Deliverables Plan and prog the upcoming 2019 drilling program Identify and interpret existing data and prepare for the 2020 budget cycle Championing continuous improvement in respect to ‘Best in Class’ HSE Essential Experience & Skills Minimum of 10+ years of relevant oil and gas industry geophysics experience is required Strong understanding of geologic principles relating to seismic interpretation Basic well-log interpretation skills High level of proficiency in Seisware, Geoscout/Accumap, Ikon RocDoc and Hampson-Russell software Possess high level of understanding in seismic data processing and 2D/3D acquisition Possesses the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision A strong team player, a good communicator who is self-confident, takes initiative, and shows a creative approach Demonstrates good project management skills Education University Degree in Geophysics, preferably with a Masters; APEGA Member   Attributes & Characteristics Open and honest team player Positive and engaging personality Flexible, influential and assertive when required Vermilion Attractions International company, headquartered in Alberta, Canada Diverse asset base in Europe, Australia, US and Canada 20-year history of market outperformance Ranked among the Top 10 Best Workplaces in Canada, France and The Netherlands Challenging and inspiring environment that embraces teamwork and collaboration Strong community investment and committed to giving back to the communities where our people live and work Vermilion is committed to ensuring we conduct our activities in a manner that will protect the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the public.
