Functions and Responsibilities
Review of casing and wellhead design criteria to ensure well integrity and compliance with industry best practices, company policies/guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Provide critical review of drilling programs and recommended practices with a focus on driving technical innovation, ensuring well integrity, promoting consistent delivery and driving cost efficiencies.
Support internal company and industry technical committees to improve best practices.
Work with regulatory agencies to improve understanding of Well Construction operations and technology.
Provide technical input to build base of engineering programs to support Drilling Engineers in executing their daily work responsibilities.
Take on a leadership role with respect to the health, safety and environmental policies of the company at all times.
Assist in the technical mentoring of Drilling Engineering staff.
Take an active role in various company initiatives, particularly those related to process improvement and efficiency.
Stay current on developments in the drilling industry to ensure the use of latest technologies and industry best practices.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Minimum 8 years of drilling related experience with exposure to field operation with 10+ years preferred
Experience in casing, wellhead and drill string design requirements a plus
Experience in unconventional shale drilling techniques is required with specific exposure to pad drilling and simultaneous operations.
Skilled at working in a highly collaborative manner with Superintendents and Completion Foremen
An efficient and precise communicator as the position requires interaction with team members, wellsite supervisors, service companies and regulatory bodies.
Key Competencies
Business acumen with a solid understanding of costs and economic decision making
Good understanding of drilling rig equipment and downhole tools.
A strong commitment to safe work practices and an ability to keep detailed safety records
Able and willing to travel as required
Strong organization and time management skills
Work in a team atmosphere where the drilling engineer is an integral part of the group rather than an individual entity
Project Management skills are essential
Skilled at working in a highly collaborative manner with Drilling Superintendents and Drilling Foremen
